Founder and Senior Teacher at StressCare
David Weinberg, M.P.A., is StressCare’s founder, and is a consulting senior teacher in various StressCare programs, including the 8-Week Course in mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR). David also works with individuals in his private mindfulness-based practice, ACT 1-on-1. He leads retreats for healthcare professionals, psychologists, and other people who have a deep commitment to healing and living a full and satisfying life.
David founded StressCare in 1996 after completing clinical training in 1994 with Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center Stress Reduction Clinic, now known as the Center for Mindfulness. David is recognized as a distinguished teacher of MBSR by the Center for Mindfulness. David was president of the StressCare Board until 2019, and continues to be a member of the board in 2020.
David has practiced Zen meditation since 1978 and is ordained in the Soto Zen tradition of Shunryu Suzuki Roshi. He is the founder and head teacher of Ocean Sangha, a Zen practice group meeting weekly in the East Bay which is open to StressCare alumni and other meditators.
David has a long-standing commitment to mindfulness practice as a way of life, and is known for his insight, humor and compassion. He is a proud father and can occasionally be found flying a Citabria or Cessna over the Bay. He invites you to join him on a mindful path of profound health and well-being.
