Stress Reduction and Pain Management

Providers

MBSR benefits providers as well as patients.

Read about the efficacy of MBSR (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction) on our Results pages.

The centerpiece of StressCare’s work is the 8-Week Course in MBSR, based on the world-renowned work of Dr. Jon-Kabat-Zinn. This is the starting point for anyone seeking relief from stress and pain. We welcome providers and patients in any of our 8-Week Courses.

StressCare Referrers

StressCare Referrers include over 50 key referring health care providers from all over the Bay Area who recommend MBSR to their patients as essential to overall health care. See also the StressCare Board.

StressCare also receives referrals from many providers not currently on our regular announcement list.

CMEs

13 Category 1 Continuing Medical Education Units (CMEs) are available for physicians, nurses, MFTs, LCSWs and psychologists at our Berkeley locations. These 8-Week Courses are offered by Alta Bates Summit Medical Center, a CME-accredited provider, in cooperation with StressCare. Physicians may report up to 13 hours of Category 1 Credit toward the California Medical Association’s Certificate in Continuing Medical Education and the American Medical Association’s Physician’s Recognition Award.

The California Board of Registered Nurses states that programs qualifying for Category 1 Credit are also acceptable for equal continuing education credit toward re-licensing (BRN no. 000689). ABSMC is approved as a Continuing Education Provider by the Board of Behavioral Sciences (approval no. PCE 637).

Neil, physician

"As a physician I found this course to be meaningful and sustaining. Now I am more easily patient and aware, and have learned how to regain a receptive and helpful stance in my work.

"Juggling family life, a demanding career, personal needs, and the effects of aging created a level of stress and disenchantment with my work that I could no longer afford to ignore.

"Under the StressCare instructor's kind and non-judgmental direction, I began learning a method of relaxation which enhances my capacity to better care for myself, which then naturally extends to others."
