Stress Reduction and Pain Management

Magic of Breathing

This course is for graduates who want to master the practice of conscious breathing, and are interested in enlivening mindfulness through guided inquiry.

You are invited to refresh and deepen your stress reduction practice in this 10-week graduate course led by Karin Pfluger, senior StressCare teacher. Basic principles will be reviewed.

Discover your very breath as the vehicle for healing and insight. Nourish mindfulness by developing full awareness of breathing in your sitting practice. Deepen practice with the element of meditative inquiry. Guided meditations introduce weekly themes for practice and discussion in class and at home.

Weekly meditations based on ancient source material on mindfulness will be introduced to cultivate self-understanding and compassion. Magic of Breathing will include:

  • Strengthening your capacity for conscious breathing
  • Practices to establish calm and stability in body and mind
  • Actively cultivating joy in practice
  • When to use guided meditations as good medicine for difficult emotions
  • How to direct attention away from unhelpful habits of thinking that keep us stuck
  • New practice themes that open the way for more connection, enjoyment and compassion (of and for oneself and others!)

You will be encouraged to develop your home practice with Karin’s guidance and the support of the group.

The course includes ten consecutive evening meetings, 7:00 to 9:00 PM, and a silent 6-hour Saturday retreat.
