People seeking relief from stress and pain come to StressCare classes from all over the Bay Area including Alameda County, Contra Costa County and San Francisco. Our current class locations are in Central Berkeley, South Berkeley, downtown Orinda and Walnut Creek.
Our 8-Week Courses in Berkeley are approved by Alta Bates Summit Medical Center for 13 Category 1 CMEs for physicians, nurses, MFTs, LCSWs, and psychologists. Get details on our Providers page.
David Weinberg | Senior Teacher
Founder and President of StressCare
David Weinberg, M.P.A., teaches the StressCare 8-Week Course and StressCare graduate courses at Alta Bates Summit Medical Center and other locations in Berkeley, Orinda and Walnut Creek. David offers retreats for physician-referred patients, physicians, and the general public; and works with both groups and individuals in learning basic and advanced methods for stress reduction.
David has practiced Zen meditation since 1978 and received his clinical training in stress reduction (MBSR) at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in 1994. He is the founder and teacher of Ocean Sangha, a Zen practice group and StressCare sister organization, and is a proud father. David has a longstanding commitment to mindfulness and meditation as the foundation of his life; and is known for his insight, humor and compassion in his teaching.
David is recognized as a distinguished senior teacher of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) by the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, founded by Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D., and is ordained in the Soto Zen tradition of Shunryu Suzuki Roshi.
Karin Pfluger | Senior Teacher
Director of StressCare
Karin Pfluger, R.A., S.E.P., teaches the StressCare 8-Week Course and StressCare graduate courses and other Mindfulness-Based Courses at Alta Bates Summit Medical Center and other locations in Berkeley, Oakland, Orinda and Walnut Creek.
Karin has practiced Zen meditation since 1997, and received her clinical training in stress reduction (MBSR) at the West Coast Teacher Development Program of the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, founded by Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph. D., and as a StressCare intern. She is a certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP) for body-based trauma healing.
Karin leads retreats for physician-referred patients, physicians, and the general public; and works with both groups and individuals in learning basic and advanced methods for stress reduction. Karin is a mother, a Registered Architect in California, and is lay ordained in the Soto Zen tradition of Shunryu Suzuki Roshi.
Karin is devoted to helping everyone she meets find their deepest happiness and innate wholeness.
John S. Edelen | Associate Teacher
Chief Advisor to StressCare
John S. Edelen, M.D., (Jack Edelen) is a practicing cardiologist and former Chief of Medicine at Alta Bates Summit Medical Center in Berkeley, California. Jack practices meditation regularly and is a tireless advocate for Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction as a vital part of total health care for everyone.
He co-leads StressCare retreats and makes presentations to physician groups and others. He recommends this form of stress reduction to his patients, colleagues, and fellow caregivers.
